Why Is Your Business Not Showing on Google Maps?

Your business may not be showing on Google Maps because your Google Business Profile is not verified, has been suspended, contains incomplete or inconsistent details, or simply faces strong competition for the searches you are checking. Distance also plays a big part, as Google often shows businesses closest to the person searching.

The good news is that many of these causes can be identified and fixed, often without any technical knowledge.

Your Profile Is Unverified, Under Review or Suspended

An unverified profile may not appear in Google Maps in the way you expect, and you may not be able to manage all of its details. Check your Google Business Profile dashboard to confirm that verification is complete.

New profiles, and profiles with recent changes to key details such as the name, address or category, may also be reviewed by Google before updates go live. During this time, the profile may not appear as normal.

Profiles can also be suspended if Google believes they break its guidelines. Common reasons include adding keywords to the business name, using an address where you do not actually serve customers or creating several profiles for the same business.

If your profile has been suspended, you will usually see a message in your dashboard. You can then correct the problem and request a review through Google.

Your Details Are Incomplete or Inconsistent

An incomplete profile gives Google less information to match you to relevant searches. Make sure your categories, services, opening hours and description are filled in accurately.

Inconsistent details can cause confusion too. If your address or phone number differs between your profile, your website and online directories, Google may be less confident about your business information. Duplicate profiles for the same business can also split visibility.

You Are Searching From the Wrong Place

Distance is one of the main factors in local results. If you search for “electrician” from your home, Google may show businesses near your home rather than near your office.

Try searching from different locations, or use the specific town name in your search, to get a fairer picture. Remember that results also vary between searches, devices and even times of day.

Strong Local Competition

Sometimes your profile is working correctly, but other businesses are simply seen as more relevant or more prominent for that search. Prominence reflects how well known a business is, including its reviews and how often it is mentioned across the web.

Building genuine reviews, keeping your profile active and strengthening your wider local presence can help over time.
